Ed Gordon Memorial Friendship Scholarship

Ed Gordon lived his life with unwavering loyalty, hard work, and deep devotion to those he loved. He was an extremely hard worker and the most reliable friend anyone could ask for. You could always count on him for an honest opinion. Ed was a true family man who cared deeply for all those close to him.


Ed had a warm presence that brightened every room—his big smile and contagious laugh brought joy to everyone around him. He cherished simple pleasures and quality time with loved ones, whether it was Sunday drives, playing cards, watching golf, boating, or traveling to Florida and Drummond Island. Ed and his wife enjoyed golfing together and spending cherished time in Venice, Florida. His loyalty, dependability, and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him, and his legacy of friendship and devotion continues to inspire those whose lives he touched.


Applicants to this scholarship will apply as pairs of friends. You will work together to write one collaborative scholarship application representing each of you and your friendship. By working together as friends to achieve greatness, you'll be reflecting the core values of The Backpack Fund.

  1. Tell the origin story of your friendship. How did you meet? What are the earliest memories of your friendship? What are your favorite moments from then to the present?
  2. What role have you played in each other's life? How have you supported each other? What have you accomplished together?
